Abstract Aims Fitness to practice (FtP) investigations by the General Medical Council (GMC) can be one of most stressful experiences in a surgeon’s career. Demographic factors are known alter likelihood GMC investigation. Despite this there no studies assessing risk surgeons for FtP sanctions. Thus, we used newly created Intercollegiate Membership Royal College Surgeons (MRCS) examination database identify and prevalence sanctions early-career surgeons. Methods sanction data contained list registered medical practitioners (LRMP) was linked at person-level all UK graduates who had attempted MRCS Part A or B between September 2007 January 2020. Data were anonymised England prior analysis. Results Of 11,660 candidates within study period only 31 (0.3%) last two years. these, 12 active conditions on their registration, 7 undertakings 14 warnings. Candidate demographics similar cohorts considerable differences performance identified. Conclusion In this, largest date, 0.3%, significantly lower than across more experienced (0.9%).
